Now that the comment period is open on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Stibnite Gold Project, we think it is more important than ever that you have the facts on our project. We have worked hard to share the latest information with you ever since we first came to Idaho more than a decade ago. Unfortunately, despite all of this work, myths and misleading information about our project continues to be pushed by activists who do not want to see our work in Idaho move forward. We want to address these inaccuracies with you, so you can come to your own conclusions and make an informed decision about the Stibnite Gold Project.
Here is the latest myth we’ve heard on our project and the facts.
Myth: The Stibnite Gold Project has been fast-tracked.
Fact: The Stibnite Gold Project is already in its fourth year of NEPA review. At this point, the project has been delayed 10 different times, adding two more years to the original agency-determined schedule. Right now, we do not expect to have a final decision on the Stibnite Gold Project until late 2021.
Six years of study plus four years of regulatory evaluation by 11 local, state and federal agencies is not a fast track. We have spent more than $60 million on permitting thus far to study, evaluate and improve our project design. The Stibnite Gold Project is being evaluated under the most rigorous mine permitting process in the world. The past four years of scientifically-based review involved 80 reports and more than 27,000 pages of documents and produced a 5,000 page Draft Environmental Impact Statement. Even with all of this work, we still have many more steps to go before we receive the final approvals on our project.
