Our Plan to Fix the River

Our Plan to Fix the River

Published on April 16, 2019

Over a century of mining created the problems in the headwaters of the East Fork of the South Fork of the Salmon River. Now, it is time for mining to be part of the solution and, at Midas Gold, we want to lead the way. We are the only ones with a plan to clean up the river and the resources to do it in conjunction with the redevelopment of the Stibnite Mining District

Before mining even begins, we will reconnect native salmon to their spawning grounds for the first time in 80 years. We will improve water quality and fish habitat by removing, reprocessing and properly storing the abandoned tailings that currently threaten the river and groundwater. Our team will also repair the damage from a failed dam to permanently keep sediment out of the river.

These problems will not correct themselves. If we want to protect the river, we need to invest in its restoration. Corporate resources and profit are the solution this river needs.

Despite our plans to help fix one of the key channels flowing into the South Fork of the Salmon River, a Washington DC-based political organization is confusingly trying to suggest our project will cause more harm than good. We proactively reached out to try to clear up these misconceptions but the organization never responded to our request to meet

The fact is, we are the only entity committed to restoring the river and repairing the local environment. We are excited to be working with Idaho to finally get the job done.
